Educational Workshop on Marine Environmental Conservation for Children in Abkouhi Village

2025-April-10

The Midaf held a special educational workshop focused on marine environmental conservation for children in Abkouhi village, Jask County, Hormozgan Province. Given the significant role of fishing as a primary livelihood in this region, the program aimed to raise awareness among children about the importance of marine ecosystems and the impact of human activities on aquatic life.
During the workshop, children learned about the role of the sea in food supply, the importance of marine species, and the effects of pollution and illegal fishing on aquatic populations. Through interactive games and engaging activities, the concept of environmental preservation and the importance of keeping shorelines and seas clean were conveyed in an accessible manner.
The observation of multiple deceased sea turtles in the area has raised concerns about the negative impacts of human activities on the survival of these species. As a result, one of the key components of this training was focused on sea turtle conservation. Children were introduced to the characteristics, life cycle, and ecological role of sea turtles and learned simple ways to reduce environmental harm.
This initiative was attended by more than 15 children, aged 5 to 12, who enthusiastically participated in the educational activities. Many expressed their intention to be more mindful of protecting the environment and preventing marine pollution.
Given the overwhelmingly positive reception of the program, the Midaf society plans to expand similar educational efforts to other coastal villages in Hormozgan Province. Additionally, initiatives such as beach cleanups, increasing public awareness about marine pollution risks, and establishing ongoing environmental education programs for children and local communities will be implemented in the future.
Sustained educational efforts like this can play a crucial role in reducing environmental damage, fostering responsible behavior toward marine conservation, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of marine resources in the region.
