" Genetic Study of Cetaceans in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman"
Project administrator: Midaf Nature Conservation Society
Status: Ongoing...
The Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, two significant regions in the northern part of the Arabian Sea, serve as vital habitats and migration routes for certain marine cetaceans. Genetic studies can provide precise information about the genetic diversity and population structure of these cetaceans. This information helps researchers to better understand the evolutionary relationships between different species and analyze the role of cetaceans in marine ecosystems.
Moreover, genetic studies can identify unique genetic markers that assist in the conservation and restoration of endangered populations. Therefore, genetic data is a crucial tool for developing conservation strategies and sustainable management of biological resources. The main aim of this project is to investigate the genetics and population structure among deceased cetaceans in the Iranian waters of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
